The Underground Double Box Waste Station is a type of enclosed garbage collection facility that houses two separate garbage storage containers underground in a pit. The containers can be replaced and emptied through mechanical hoisting, and no processing of the garbage is carried out throughout the process.

The Underground Double Box Waste Station does not have any garbage compression function. It is only used for the enclosed storage of garbage. The two containers are used alternately to ensure normal garbage disposal on a daily basis. The underground enclosed environment is relied upon to inhibit the spread of odors. It is a pure storage-type, non-compressed underground urban sanitation garbage collection equipment.

High environmental protection performance

The garbage is fully sealed and stored in underground containers, fundamentally solving the visual pollution problem of traditional trash bins.

There are no hydraulic pumps, push heads or other components with compression equipment. During operation, there is almost no noise and no leakage of compressed sewage. It is very friendly to areas such as residential communities, schools, and hospitals that are sensitive to noise and odors.

Both the container and the disposal opening are equipped with sealing rubber strips, and the leakage of odors is extremely rare. Its impact on the surrounding environment is much smaller than that of ground garbage dumps and compressed garbage stations.


The structure is simple, with a low failure rate and extremely low maintenance costs.

The core components consist only of two storage boxes and the lifting mechanism. There is no complex hydraulic compression system. The structure is similar to that of a common underground trash can, except that it has been expanded with two boxes.

Daily maintenance only requires checking the lifting chain / steel wire rope, the sealing rubber strips of the box, and the drainage system of the pit. No professional hydraulic maintenance personnel are needed. The maintenance cost is lower than that of a garbage station with compression. It is more convenient to use in the long term.


The two boxes are used alternately, and garbage disposal does not stop.

The two boxes can achieve the mode of main box and backup box: when one box is full and needs to be cleared, it can be switched to the other empty box for continued disposal, without affecting the normal garbage disposal of residents. This solves the problem that garbage stations with a single box cannot accept garbage during the cleaning process, and is especially suitable for scenarios with a large amount of garbage generation.


Garbage has strong compatibility.

There are no restrictions on the type of push head, and there are almost no requirements for the type of garbage: wet garbage, dry garbage, large cardboard boxes, and mixed garbage can all be directly disposed of. It is suitable for scenarios in the early stage of garbage classification or where management is not standardized.


Friendly urban appearance, highly adaptable to the site

The box is fully buried underground, and only a ground-level discharge port is retained on the surface, which does not occupy the activity space and will not damage the landscape. It is particularly suitable for renovation of old residential areas, parks and scenic spots, commercial streets, etc., where high aesthetic requirements and tight site conditions are present.

The civil engineering scale is much smaller than that of large-scale compression stations and does not require an independent garbage room.


Core Structure Composition

Underground foundation pit

The foundation pit is an underground space made of reinforced concrete, with a depth usually ranging from 2 to 3 meters. It is equipped with double-box parallel installation positions inside, serving as the base for the entire equipment.

The bottom of the foundation pit is treated for waterproofing and anti-corrosion. Some areas may have sump pits and drainage pumps installed to prevent water accumulation from rainwater and leachate from garbage from soaking the boxes.

Guiding rails or slots for positioning the boxes are reserved inside the pit to ensure precise placement of the boxes during lowering, and to reduce running vibrations.


Two independent garbage storage boxes

Two completely separate garbage collection boxes are arranged side by side in the foundation pit. The materials are mostly thick and corrosion-resistant steel plates. The capacity is usually 4-10 cubic meters and can be customized according to requirements.

The box is designed in a sealed style, with a sealed cover on the top and rubber sealing strips installed at the edges to prevent odors from escaping and leakage of filtrate; the side of the box is reserved with lifting hooks or interface for truck docking, facilitating transportation.

Unlike the garbage stations with compression, the internal structure of the boxes does not have compression push rods, hydraulic cylinders, etc., and is only used as a temporary storage container for loose garbage. The structure is simpler and less likely to get clogged by materials.


Lifting Mechanism

Composed of columns, beams, pulley sets, chains, and drive devices. Some models use hydraulic lifting platforms instead of chains for hoisting.

Its function is to smoothly lift the garbage-filled container from the pit to the ground level for connection with the collection vehicle. The entire process can be controlled electrically or manually, with limit switches to prevent over-hoisting or over-lowering to ensure safety.

The lifting frame can be permanently fixed above the pit or designed as detachable, without affecting other uses of the site.


Ground Disposal and Operating System

Only the disposal opening is retained on the ground. The opening is equipped with foot pedals or sensor designs. When closed, it is flush with the ground, ensuring no obstruction to passage or loss of aesthetics.

Below the disposal opening, a chute directly connects to the underground container, allowing garbage to fall directly into the container without any intermediate steps.

The operation panel is set on the side of the ground, integrating control buttons for elevation, emergency stop switches, power indicator lights, etc. Some models can also be equipped with a container overflow alarm light.


Auxiliary Facilities

Simple Odor Removal Devices: Such as activated carbon adsorption boxes and small exhaust fans, which utilize the underground sealed space to reduce the spread of odors and do not require complex spray odor removal systems.

Mosquito and Fly Prevention Facilities: The discharge ports are equipped with sealing rubber strips, and a mosquito net is installed on the top of the box to reduce the breeding of pests.

Working Process

The core working principle of the Underground Double Box Waste Station is the alternate use of the two boxes, with the boxes being lifted for replacement and cleaning, and the entire process does not involve garbage compression.


Garbage Disposal Phase

Garbage is dumped through the ground disposal opening and falls directly into the two underground containers. The two containers can be set as "primary container + backup container", or used according to the classification of garbage for separate areas, without interfering with each other.


During the sealed storage stage

The garbage is loosely stored within the container. After the top cover and the discharge port are closed, a sealed environment is formed. Odors and leachate are effectively isolated. Unlike traditional trash cans, it is not exposed outside and there is no problem of water leakage caused by the compression process.


Box switching and warning stage

When the garbage volume in one of the boxes reaches 80% - 90%, the system will issue a collection reminder. At this point, you can switch to another empty box to continue the disposal, to prevent the overflow of garbage from affecting usage and ensure the continuity of the disposal process.


During the stage of box hoisting and removal

After the removal vehicle arrives, the hoisting mechanism is activated. The box filled with garbage is smoothly lifted from the pit and raised to a height level with the removal vehicle's compartment. Then, the box is hooked into the compartment through the drawbar device of the grab vehicle and directly transported to the waste treatment plant.


Empty box reset stage

After the clearance operation is completed, the empty box body is placed back into the positioning position in the pit through the hoisting mechanism, or a spare empty box is used, the discharge cover plate is closed, the equipment returns to the standby state, and the two boxes enter the alternate use cycle again.

High environmental protection, good pollution control

Fully underground sealed storage, no exposed garbage, less odor diffusion, less breeding of mosquitoes and flies, and far fewer problems of visual pollution compared to traditional ground garbage collection points; no compression process, and also avoids the problems of water leakage during compression and noise disturbance.


The structure is simple, and the operation and maintenance costs are low.

There are no complex mechanisms such as compression push rods and hydraulic cylinders. The failure rate is low, and daily maintenance only requires checking the lifting chain, box body sealing parts and pit drainage. The maintenance cost is lower than that of garbage stations with compression.


Alternating between two containers, without interruption in disposal

When disposing of a single container, the other container can continue to be used. This solves the problem of inability to dispose when using a single container at a garbage station, and is suitable for places with high traffic volume and continuous garbage generation.


The site has strong adaptability and high space utilization rate.

The box is buried underground, and the ground only occupies a few square meters of the placement platform. No large garbage room needs to be built, which is suitable for scenarios with limited space such as old residential areas, parks, and commercial streets; it has good compatibility with garbage types, and both dry and wet garbage, as well as classified garbage, can be collected, and there is little risk of jamming or blockage.


 Limitations and Precautions

The effective capacity is limited, and the frequency of garbage removal is higher.

The garbage is stored in a loose state. The effective loading capacity of the box with the same volume is lower than that of the compressed box. In places with a large amount of garbage production, more frequent removal is required, and the removal routes and frequencies need to be planned in advance.


The construction of the foundation pit has certain requirements. The initial investment is relatively high.

It involves underground foundation pit excavation and waterproofing construction. There are certain requirements for the geological conditions of the site and the groundwater level. The construction period is longer than that of the ground garbage station, and the proportion of the initial civil engineering cost is higher.


For long-term use, proper anti-corrosion and leak-proof measures must be taken.

The box body will come into prolonged contact with the leachate from garbage. Therefore, the anti-corrosion coating and sealing rubber strips need to be inspected regularly, and the drainage system of the foundation pit should also be cleaned regularly to prevent water accumulation from soaking the box body and causing rust or leakage.

Old residential areas, renovated communities: The site space is limited, making it unsuitable for building large compression stations. High requirements for environmental cleanliness.

Schools, hospitals, parks / scenic spots: High foot traffic, continuous garbage generation, and sensitivity to odors and noise.

Commercial streets, small shopping districts: Limited ground space, requiring a balance between garbage collection and city aesthetics.
